What happens after completion? Property registration explained

Completion may feel like the final step in a property transaction, but there is still an important stage that follows – registering the property with Land Registry.

After completion, our conveyancers will:

  • Submit the SDLT return to HM Revenue & Customs (if applicable)

  • Apply to Land Registry to register the new ownership

  • Update the title register to show the new owner and any mortgage

Registration can take several weeks or months, depending on the application. In some cases - particularly first registrations – the process can take a year or more.

At Owen Kenny Partnership, we guide our clients through each stage of the conveyancing process, including the post-completion registration.
