Who to appoint as your Attorney?
Lasting Powers of Attorney give someone the power to manage your affairs, should you lose the capacity to do so yourself. An attorney might be a spouse, friend or family member, or a professional.
There are approximately 8 million Powers of Attorney registered across the country and - when needed - they allow the registered attorney/s to pay the donor's bills, getting access to their bank accounts, selling their property, making crucial decisions around where they live and the care they receive. In the vast majority of cases, they work well and are trouble-free. By choosing more than one Attorney (this is recommended), this provides a counter-balance to their decisions or potential conflicts of interest.
